HOW TO: Remotely Connect to Office PC

By following this article you will learn how to remotely connect to your workstation at the office. Please note that you will need to be connected with pulse secure before connecting to your office PC.

Instructions

  1. First we need to ensure your office desktop is set to accept remote connections. Alternate click the "Computer" icon on the desktop and select "Properties". From the panel on the left hand side, select "Remote settings".

  2. From the System Properties window under Remote Desktop select the "Allow connections from computers running any version of Remote Desktop (less secure)" radio button and Apply and OK the change.

  3. Finally we need to obtain the IP address of your office workstation. From your office workstation, open a web browser and navigate to https://www.whatismyip.com/ and write down the IP address to take home with you.

  4. (Windows): From your home office, left click your Start button, type "remote" in the search text box and from the results select "Remote Desktop Connection". At the Remote Desktop Connection window select Show options and input the IP address you copied from the office, input your Username, select the "Allow me to save credentials" checkbox, select Save and then "Connect". If you didn't select the option to save your connection in the previous slide, input the password you use to log into your desktop at the office and select "OK".

(Mac): We now need to go to the Apple App Store and download the Microsoft Remote Desktop app. Open the program and at the Microsoft Remote Desktop application window click on the + to create a new connection. Under Connection Name input your IS tag number. For PC Name input the IP address you brought home from the office. Under Credentials input the username and password that you log into your office desktop with and then close the window. Now that your connection has been created, left click the connection to highlight and then click on the arrow to start your session. At the Verify Certificate window you will get a notification that you are connecting to RDP host "your IP address". Select "Continue".
